A Considerable Achievement: The Tactical Development of the 56th (London) Division on the Western Front, 1916-1918

為了解決Hand it over to的問題,作者Brosnan, Matt 這樣論述:

Nearly a century on, the operational performance of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) on the Western Front during the First World War is still a hotly debated subject. The dominant perception is one of a conflict characterized by mud, trenches and futility, presided over by incompetent comman

ders. But over the last thirty years a different view has emerged and gained increasing prominence. Many historians have argued that the BEF deserves more credit for the wartime learning curve it underwent in evolving from a small professional force into a mass citizen army, which helped it to end t

he war victorious. The BEF has become the subject of even more detailed research, as historians have sought to investigate all aspects of its operational practice. This book enters into this debate by taking a detailed look at a single infantry division, one of the BEF's vital constituent parts. It

focuses on the 56th (London) Division, a first-line Territorial division that served continuously on the Western Front between February 1916 and November 1918. By focusing on and comparing three key battles in the Division's service - the Battle of Gommecourt on 1 July 1916, the Battle of Arras on 9

April 1917 and the Battle of Albert on 23 August 1918 - this study provides detailed insight into 56th Division's tactical development. It suggests that by the last year of the war, 56th Division had developed sophisticated offensive tactics born out of years of hard-fought experience. This study u

tilizes a range of archival sources, including the official documents of war diaries, operational orders and battle reports. But it also references the private papers of the officers and men who served in 56th Division, gaining the insight of individuals who witnessed and took part in these events a

t first hand. The voices that emerge from these sources are a testament to the dedication of many of the men who served with the Division and who helped it to develop increasingly effective fighting methods, as was also the case with the BEF as a whole. The 56th (London) Division therefore deserves

to be remembered for its contribution to a painful, but ultimately victorious war effort. Matt Brosnan was educated at the University of Birmingham, where he studied History and English at undergraduate level and then Twentieth Century British History at postgraduate level. His postgraduate research

was on the tactical development of 56th Division on the Western Front, which has been extended to form the present study. Since 2006 he has worked at the Imperial War Museum in London, initially as a Curator in the Department of Art, which holds the largest collection of modern British art outside

the Tate. He curated displays on the Hall of Remembrance art scheme of the First World War and Neo-Romantic art of the Second World War period. He currently works as a Historian in the Research and Information Department, where he is researching forthcoming exhibitions on Frontline Medicine and also

for the centenary of the First World War. A Considerable Achievement is his first publication. He was born and lives in north London.

Hand it over to進入發燒排行的影片

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Totoro

Totoro,

Totoro was diagnosed with kidney failure in last October, and he has gout thus his right foot is swelling.

We were nearly devastated when hearing about the news, and tried to think why he’ll have such a disease. Maybe it’s because he’d never really successfully weaning and were fed with baby parrot hand feed formula since he was born (That was a long story, he couldn’t sustain his light-already weight and eat by himself if we stop hand feeding him).
We’re having regular subcutaneous fluids and medicines to support his kidney function for almost one year until now.
Although his urid acid level is still lingering between normal and abnormal value, he is having rather stable condition in recent months, dancing and singing when he has a good mood.
The video was shoot after Totoro’s diagnosis.
Totoro teaches us that, it is better to cherish the moment we have than regret over past decision or worry what might happen in the future.

為了解決Hand it over to的問題,作者杜岱芸 這樣論述:

Involuntary Consent: The Illusion of Choice in Japan’s Adult Video Industry

為了解決Hand it over to的問題,作者Takeyama, Akiko 這樣論述:

The popularity of pornography is predicated on the idea those participating have given their consent. That is what allows the porn industry to dominate the media economy today, generating staggering sums of money. Looking at behind-the-scenes negotiations and abuses in Japan’s massive adult video in

dustry, Akiko Takeyama challenges this pervasive notion with the idea of involuntary consent. This phenomenon, she argues, is ubiquitous, not only in the porn industry, but in our everyday lives, and yet modern society, built on beliefs of autonomy, free choice, and equality, renders it all but invi

sible.Japan’s AV industry alone generates a conservatively estimated $5 billion a year. In recent years, it has drawn public attention, and criticism, as a result of a series of arrests and trials of former talent agency owners and executives. This led to a report calling for a systematic investigat

ion of the industry over the issue of forced performance. This report had ripple effects far beyond Japan, as the US Department of State subsequently also cited forced performance as a rights violation. Using this moment as an entry point, Takeyama argues that contract-making writ large is based on

fundamentally dualistic terms, implying consent and pleasure on the one hand, and coercion and pain on the other. Because sex workers are employed on a contract basis, they fall outside of the purview of standard labor and employment laws. As a result, they are frequently forced to comply with what

production companies (most of whom center male fantasies) demand. In this ethnography of Japan’s porn industry, Akiko Takeyama investigates the paradox of involuntary consent in modern liberal democratic societies. Taking consent as her starting point, Takeyama illustrates the nuances of Japan’s por

nographic and sex work industries and the legal structures, or lack thereof, that govern them. Akiko Takeyama is Associate Professor of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Kansas. She is the author of Staged Seduction (SUP 2016), which was shortlisted for the 2017 Michelle Ro

saldo Book Prize.

為了解決Hand it over to的問題,作者邱思綺 這樣論述:

(Check-All-That-Apply Method; CATA
